Engineering

The SIAD Group has chosen Porto Marghera, Venice, as the site for its new large-scale ASU (Air Separation Unit) production plant.

Economic and employment impact

‘This project,’ says Bernardo Sestini, President and CEO of the SIAD Group, "demonstrates our confidence in the Italian and European economic system. The particularly significant investment of around €50 million will have a positive impact on the added value generated throughout the supply chain. The new site will enable SIAD to play a leading role in technologies related to decarbonisation. The new plant will require skilled workers, which is also a valuable opportunity for the growth and training of new talent. The staff, currently already involved in the construction of ASUs in the province of Bergamo, will be involved in further industrial projects of the Group, also in the Bergamo area. This new industrial project joins a series of initiatives aimed at growing the Engineering area, which also sees us engaged both in Bergamo and internationally with new offices and new production units.

Innovation and international development

The new plant will help SIAD Macchine Impianti meet the challenges and opportunities offered by decarbonisation and energy transition targets. In fact, this further step will enable the SIAD Group to consolidate its position in the engineering and construction of large air separation plants for the production of nitrogen, oxygen and argon, in addition to the medium and small-sized plants it has been developing and building for many years. Large-scale plants are key to emission abatement technologies and hydrogen economy processes. The project represents a significant step in the growth and progressive internationalisation of the SIAD Group, consolidating its experience in a segment of first-class products. The strategic location of the new plant, located within the Port of Marghera and equipped with a quay with access to the sea, will enable SIAD to be more competitive on international markets thanks to the fact that it will be possible to load ASUs directly onto ships, making logistics management more efficient. In addition to the areas and buildings dedicated to production, a service building, parking and access roads are planned.

Port and logistics development

‘The positive wave continues for Porto Marghera, which is attracting innovation, development and jobs: there are many reasons to be satisfied with the establishment in Porto Marghera of such a significant manufacturing excellence as SIAD,’ said Fulvio Lino Di Blasio, President of the Northern Adriatic Sea Port Authority. Firstly, thanks to this investment, Venice confirms its position as a leading national port for Project Cargo maritime transport, a sector that uses sea transport for 90% of its shipments. Secondly, SIAD's investment will enable large-scale manufacturing on site, thus limiting land transport and significantly reducing road congestion and pollution. Finally, the collaboration between the Port Authority and the private sector has made it possible to capitalise on the two specific features of Porto Marghera: its large hinterland and its proximity to the sea, factors that together attract and will continue to attract investments related to high and very high value-added manufacturing. Our Authority has once again demonstrated that it has opened its doors to the world of manufacturing and is working to build a new port that can help businesses seize the opportunities offered by the establishment of the Simplified Logistics Zone by issuing the necessary authorisations in record time to start work and make the plant operational.
